The Tow Canada Beauty Contest is held every other year, and 2010 is an "on" year. It's a lot of work for us, as I'm sure it is for all of you who enter, but it's also a lot of fun. We get all to see a whole lot of great looking tow trucks that are the pride and joy of their owners.

This time around, we'd really like to see you take your creativity to the next level. To help, you’ll find an article in this edition of Tow Canada that provides some tips on how to get the best photos. We offer this because we often receive pictures from towers that we can't actually use in the magazine due to improper techniques or camera settings that were used while taking the photos

And this applies not only to the beauty contest, but also to recovery stories, "Tow Tales" and "InFocus" submissions. While we do have the TowCanada.ca website available for web-friendly (lower resolution) photos, we require high resolution copies if they are to go in the magazine.

So make sure you have your camera set up properly and send us your photos and stories. Your fellow towers across Canada want to see them gracing our pages. We'll even pay for photos selected for the front cover! But they've got to be really good!

Also in this issue are a couple of features on flat decks: what's new in the North American market, and safety tips for operators of these types of tow trucks.

If you've never had to take your heavy recovery unit in for body repairs, you may have wondered what it entails and where to go. You may also have wondered what happens to those big rigs you've recovered. Who repairs them? How do they do it? As you will learn from the article on heavy collision repair by Gary Lund, it's a different world than that of automotive collision repair.

A new regular feature article makes its debut in this edition. We welcome Jeff Thorsteinson, from Investors Group Financial Services Inc., who will be contributing a series of articles on financial matters that may help you make better business decisions.

As well, François Charron has provided the first of a 2-part series called "Ten Tips from Ten Towers".

I hope you enjoy this edition of Canada's tow & recovery magazine.
